Geographic Information Module

The Graphic Information Module is a tightly integrated, web-based Geographic Information System built within Project Portal. With it, users are able to view and manipulate spatial data or maps. Although the data layers differ from Project to Project, they usually include modern or historic aerial photography, transportation infrastructure, hydrography as well as site specific map layers such as sample locations, buildings and groundwater elevation contours (for example).

The Graphic Information Module can be accessed by either invoking it directly or through the coarse of running an environmental query through the Environmental Database Module where the user has the ability to map the results of the query. Users are able to turn layers on and off, zoom in/ out and pan around a map and click on individual features to access a table of attributes related to that feature (sample location data is tied in with Environmental Database Module). Finally, users can export a map view with a map title that they define for printing or digital distribution (i.e., GIF, JPG, PDF).

The Geographic Information Module is built on fully licenses Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcServer® technology.

New Version 1.1 Functionality Includes:

  • Includes a wholesale migration to ESRI ArcServer® GIS platform which offers a more intuitive and robust user interface
  • Improved ability to post the results of queries performed in the Environmental DB Module and view summaries of time series queries on the map
  • Retrieve documents, boring/well construction logs and photographs by clicking on features in the map
